Miles&Miles: Car Rental App

Timeline: January 2024
Platform: Mobile
Project Overview
The mobile app design for Miles&Miles car rental was completed as part of my UX course. The goal was to create an app that enables users to make bookings online without contacting the call centre.
My role
My task was to analyse the requirements and problems highlighted by the business and find the appropriate design solution. Deliverables: User Flow, Lo-Fi and Hi-Fi wireframes, UI Kit, Visual Design, Prototype.
Problem Statement
Miles&Miles faces challenges due to the increasing number of customer queries overwhelming their support system. The company offers car delivery to doorsteps, but only within specific areas in London. Additionally, car availability depends on both the selected date and area, resulting in inconvenience during the booking process and leading to a higher volume of queries to the support team.
Solution
The mobile app should clearly display available cars to the user based on the selected delivery area and desired booking dates. Additionally, the app should offer simple booking management features, including extras selection and in-app payment.

Design Process

I’ve created a process to have a solid foundation for my work as a designer within different projects. This flow describes how I approach tasks. Depending on the project, some steps can be replaced or skipped. But there are mandatory ones, which are genially a skeleton of any project I do. I’ve highlighted them with green colour.

Research

My process began with a comprehensive understanding of who our users are. According to the project brief, our primary target audience is comprised of individuals seeking a luxury car rental experience. These are customers who place a high value on their time. They are likely to prioritize convenience, efficiency, and a seamless user experience. Therefore, our services and platform must be designed to meet these expectations, providing a luxurious, hassle-free car rental experience that respects their time and caters to their needs. Brief also emphasised on the importance of engagement the young audience.

Key requirements from business:

User Flow

I created a User Flow to establish a clear understanding of the user's journey. By mapping out the sequence of actions and decisions users would take within the app, I gained insights into their needs, pain points, and desired outcomes. This proactive approach not only informed the design process but also ensured that the final product was intuitive, user-friendly, and aligned with user expectations

Wireframing

I started with rough sketches in my notebook and then turned them into high-fidelity wireframes using Figma.

UI Kit

I prepared UI Kit: a set of components with different states to make my design consistent.

Visual Design

In accordance with the project brief, my primary focus was to ensure that the visual design of the app was straightforward, uncluttered, and devoid of unnecessary details that could potentially overwhelm the user. To achieve this, I deliberately opted for a minimalist aesthetic that prioritized functionality and user-friendliness. However, to prevent the interface from becoming too sterile or impersonal, I incorporated a small, playful animation during the booking process. This subtle addition  serves to make the booking process more enjoyable and less tedious.
